The best gun is whichever one you get really used to the sight picture on honestly. I don't really think the gun choice really matters that much- it's more getting used to the iron sights so you can use equipment other than a dot/scope if you need it. And ya the M16 and FAMAS are rough up close. I think of them as pretty solid long range for a non-sniper rifle. If they're close enough to see with an ACOG you can kill them with an M16. I had a rougher time with other rifles killing at longer ranges.
