I had a similar event way back in '99. I was on a 2 lane on my way home behind a Dualie and a Civic. I was in a passing zone and the Dualie decided they were going to turn off the road. I put my blinker on to pass the Civic AND the turning dualie. The person in the Civic wasn't paying attention, I guess and started to cross the line as I was beside her. I was in my Z28 so I just gunned it, pushed a littler further over to the opposite side of the road and finished passing. I continued on my merry way, but noticed that the lady in the civic was riding my ass. I sped up. She sped up. I sped up some more. She sped up some more. Finally, I got annoyed and left her sitting.

I got home and about 30 minutes later got a phone call from a state trooper saying that I would show up to a local spot and respond to charges of wreckless driving or he would come arrest me. It turns out she was a dispatcher for the local sherriff's office and claimed that I nearly ran her off the road. I told the State Trooper the truth and told her that if she had payed attention, she would have seen my blinker. Additionally, if she was so concerned about safety, she wouldn't have been riding my ass for 10 miles. I asked the trooper if legally he could do anything to me since he didn't witness it and he told me no. I told him thanks and got out of his car and left the scene.

I somehow had local Sherrifs along my whole route of travel home from work after that for about a month. One day I pulled over on a Sherriff who was following me. He got out when I got out of the car. I walked up to his car and asked him why he was following me and had been for over a week. He said that he hadn't been and then I walked him to my car and showed him my video camera that was recording out the back hatch. I told him I had video of his car following me every single day for over a week and that that constituted harrassment.

I didn't get followed after that.
