Actually a very good point. So even if they made a mistake (debateable) it wouldn't have been a fatal mistake without the officers bigger mistake.

Difference. The officer sped on purpose in premeditated defiance of the law. The kids was instantanious. The speeding driver had over 2 minutes to slow down. The kid had less than a fraction of a second to fix his presumed mistake.
