It's also a matter of branding. GM needs to maintain a top brand. Ferrari's reputation is immaculate because it is a brand based upon being one of the most stylish, race-inspired cars. GM needs to keep Caddy in top shape and continue to pit Pontiac against BMW to show that GM is bringing the best competition the industry can offer. If GM can continue to use other brands' reputations to bring up its own brands, GM will get its spot back and stay for a long time.
