The ugly truth is people only care about 'performance' when it comes to straight line speed. So as long as the new Camaro is faster than the old one, then nobody will care.
GM made the best performing pony car, and the worst sales pony car. It was terrible as a daily coupe compared to the competition. If they want the new car to sell they have to make some compromises. Better visibility, better trunk opening, a more affordable V8 option (i.e. give us an LT1 model from the beginning) need to be on the table.

The new gas charger does all that while also giving awd but its sales are complete crap as of right now in the Q1 sales. The Mustang which is more performance orientated less trunk space, laughable back seat space, and with a truck opening that isn't much better than my Camaro one (yes I have driven the new Mustang GT and experienced it) is selling way more than the more daily driver orientated Charger. (Not talking about the EV one) in fact the new daily driver orientated Charger only sold 600 more gas units than the discontinued Charger of last gen. If Chevy wants the Camaro to succeed they need to compete with the Mustang not the new Charger which goes that Daily Driver practicality route. EDIT: Since from what I read its being based on the Alpha 2 platform it probably will be more performance orientated anyway since the Buick Sedan will be the more practical one with the V8. With a better platform I can see a little tweaking to keep the same or better performance on the track while having what some people want. Dodge went the compromise route by a lot even more than last generation and right now its not working for them. Those Chargers are sitting on lots near me being discounted.
