SS Sedan was volume limited due to export rules with Australia. Not only did that mean that not every Chevrolet dealer had them, it also meant GM was only so motivated to make any modifications that would make it more attractive to the mass population. I was literally in the room when the SS was born due to the demise of Pontiac.
"What are we gonna do with the G8?"
"We can give it to Chevrolet"
"What do we have to change?"
"What are we allowed to change?"
"Not much. Fascias...badges...interior tweaks...don't spend a lot of money."
That's pretty much how the conversation went. Similar discussion on Oldsmobile Bravada becoming Buick Rainier and Saturn Vue becoming Chevrolet Captiva.
A lot of discussion on the name. I and a few other people were lobbying for Chevelle. Clearly we lost that battle
