Working for an US company over here in Europe I can tell you that there are a lot of other things that hurt the whole western production like bureaucracy and oversized safety stuff in production. the whole ethics stuff nowadays is another topic...
Talking about safety, it is just ridiculous how production machines have to be fenced in so that the most retarded cannot stick a finger anywhere. With stuff like this we will add a few $ here and a few $ there to production costs... But clear that a lot of the so called low cost parts will never be produced in the US again
