But Ford is selling less than 40k and the Gen 6 went out with really flat sales.

The brutal fact is that traditional muscle car markets have all but dried up. Most of us on this board would likely buy a new Camaro in a heartbeat, but we are an aging breed. Outside of this board and the Mustang boards performance customers are shifting to more purpose focused sports cars, luxury performance sedans, or <cough>EVs</cough> for “fast car” stuff. Things like Hyundai N series cars, Toyota GR series vehicles, BMW M series, Model 3 Performance.

As long as Ford has other similar latforms in production that allows the Mustang platform to “lunch” off of some of the similar components, Mustang continues to make sense. Even more so because it still brings people into the showroom. Even if those people buy something other than a Mustang (even a Mach E) then Mustang has done its job. In theory Camaro should have been in the same position for a Camaro 7, as long as Alpha is in place (CT4/CT5) but GM seems to have followed a different path there. Camaro ended sooner than I thought it would and CT4/CT5 is hanging on longer than I expected. GM doesn’t need Camaro bring people in the door. Corvette does that just fine.
