I am obviously not a fan of the Malibu. Not back in 1997, not in 2004, 08, 13, or 2016. It's always been the car which never truly measured up to similarly sized competitors.
Did you ever actually like, drive one? Or own one? I drove a couple as rentals and bought a 2012 as a result. I owned it for seven years and 57,000 miles. The performance with the 4 cylinder was nothing to write home about but fine for my purposes at the time (the V6 models must have been rocket ships), it was quiet, rode well and the handling was good. And it was dead nuts reliable as in Nothing going wrong in those seven years.

My criticism of the model began with the 2017 redesign which resulted in a car that looked like every other mid-sized car on the planet.
