To do the job right, I believe the dash has to at a minimum, raise up to relive pressure on the carpet.

Wow! I believe you. Anything regarding having to have the dash pulled makes me nervous because if someone can't do it.. it's going to be serious $$ to have it done at a shop especially the dealer.
