You do realize that a receiver doesn't need to be open for the QB to throw the ball, right? The corner was a step behind Shakir, and he was running his route directly at the safety, who was going to have to swivel around to stay with him. There was no way he was going to be able to do that in time, and that was the reason that Shakir was wide the F open. It's most likely how the route was designed and I'm pretty certain Josh knew that before he threw threw the pass.
