Exactly.

It just makes sense, and not just for trucks, but for pretty much any class of vehicle aside from something that could be defined as "just" a local commuter car, if that makes sense. Otherwise, this type of hybrid helps alleviate so many issues that full EV vehicles cause.

No range anxiety (no more than ICE vehicles anyways)
No need to sit for long periods charging (if you can find a reliable charger)
No compromise on EV performance
Smaller batteries are a very good thing! (less hit on the environment, less cost)
No need to completely overhaul our entire electric grid to accommodate a world with only full EVs running around.

Potential compromises with this truck will be the complexity of the drivetrain, and the additional cost over a traditional ICE truck. Fingers crossed on those two.

Maybe gm will wise-up and dust off the voltec platform and put it to use. People were pretty happy with the Volt.
