I hear you guys about civil liberties, but before you go into "government intentionally taking away your civil liberties," try reading this brief piece of history that explains the origin of "seat belt laws."

You will clearly see that the push for seat belt laws was a trojan horse bill in the 1980s to give the auto industry a hidden free pass on having to install more expensive safety equipment (automatic seat belts and airbags that the NTSB was pushing for in order to save lives). And...... the bill was introduced by the republicans (I too am a Regan fan), not the democrats like you would have expected.
So one of your examples was indeed a conspiracy, but not foremost to take away your liberties (just to pass on economic benefits to industry).
