The trip alone is worth it! I recently made a trip from South Carolina to Rochester, NY and back... staying off the major Interstates and taking the back roads for a more connected experience. I ended up doing about 50 miles on Skyline Drive which runs the peaks & valleys of the Appalachian Mountains.
Once you arrive to the Deal's Gap area... there are hundreds of miles to venture upon which all offer insane experiences. Best plan is to do it during a weekday.
