Having kids for most people is a way of them achieving immortality in some fashion (even if they don’t consciously think that), because when they die somebody is there to carry on their family name or their memory. Singing about death, invokes the idea that there is nobody to carry on our legacy or remember us. Also when we as individuals we look on a child we subconsciously think of all the time they have left in their life, and when they are singing a song about death or other related work, we are introduced to this idea that if death can happen to one so young it can happen to anybody and nobody is safe. Combines the flight or fight response with sadness of losing a child, even if we don’t know that individual.

Well that’s my limit of my knowledge on the subject, but then what do I know I am not a psychologist. Like the topic and keep up the questions. Enjoy anything that gets my mind thinking outside of the box.
