Interesting concept..."the price ladder overlap"....The lowest priced vehicle will always be at the bottom rung and the first to be eliminated. Great for company profits...not so much for the consumer as witnessed by the end of the Bolt in favor of the higher priced and more profitable Silverado.

Low cost affordable EVs will be a low priority to produce , contrary to what we have been led to believe.

I can tell you why I know what I said about the plant conversion. Because I actually talked to someone involved.

As for the price ladder thing? Very common. Especially in a case like this where the lowest price vehicle (Bolt EV or EUV on Gamma platform) costs more to produce than the slightly higher priced vehicle (base Equinox EV). You can’t price the Bolt higher, except the most heavily equipped models, and selling the lower priced versions results in lower profit margins or possibly even a net loss per vehicle sold. The fact that the Bolt batteries are purchased from LG at lower volume than Ultium batteries produced from the JV makes the cost of the batteries higher, so that is how Ultium vs not Ultium enters the discussion. But it is the cost of the vehicle plus the need to transition the plant that are the real decision points.
