I had a 64 1/2 mustang (no rolled front hood lip, registered as 64, etc..) and a 84 Mustang GT.... But I wanted a Camaro.

So I got an 85 Transam, and 87 Transam, then had kiddo's.

But, it all started in 1969. I was just old enough to care about cars.

My dad was driving burple (not misspelled) Plymouth with a nice little six cylinder in it. He also was driving a 55 pick up truck that had a few interesting quirks like starting itself in the middle of the night. My dad wanted to replace both so out to the care lots we went.

Sitting in the back of a lot in Bremerton, Wa was a nearly new 1967 RS, 327 CI, 4 speed rock crusher, black on black, Camaro. My dad told me later that two years old it only had about 1500 miles on the clock. He asked the salesman how much, countered like $1000 less (the guy was looking for a new price), and the salesman said no. So we walked out. In fact we made it to the door of the sales floor before the guy said "fine", "OK". My dad walked back pulled out his wallet and started counting cash onto the stunned guys desk.

The burple went to a buddy of my dad's and the truck went to a neighbor. The Camaro went into the garage and was driven daily and for fun. For nearly 15 years. Washed and waxed every other weekend, never driven in the snow, always taken perfect care of (we used to burn the engine oil in our garage oil stove!!!). I learned about manual transmissions in that car mimicking my dad. I learned how to clay bar, rub, and wax on that black on black car.

My dad sold it in the 80's and the new owner wrecked it after only three months of ownership.

That's when I started buying Mustangs and Pontiac's instead of Camaro's. I think I might be ready again to buy something I've always considered to be linked to the saddest days of my life. Seeing that car we took so good care of wadded up on trailer going to the crusher was horrible.

I'm going to buy a 4th gen convertible because I have this dream of driving with my youngest (twin boys) in the back seat hands overhead screaming like they are on a roller coaster ride as I rock through the gears.
