I did not expect to see (or hear) the pseudo-Hemi manufactured noise they highlighted in the video. Not impressed. I also expected better explanation of the “multi-speed” transmission. Does multi mean more than two? They didn’t come close to explaining it. Is it like the 2-speed in the Taycan, but with more than two speeds, or is it “manufactured shift points” like in Nissan DCTs? We may never know. Here’s how they described it in the presser…

Unlike typical BEVs, the Dodge brand’s eRupt multi-speed transmission with electro-mechanical shifting delivers distinctive shift points, throwing shoulders into seat backs in true Dodge style.

Sounds like an actual multi-speed transmission, which would be a game-changer for EVs. Now I’m not sure what it is.
I think it would be too costly and inefficient to add a transmission to an EV. Tesla looked a this early on and it was ruled out an unnecessary. When people argued it could help performance like in the Taycan, they said oh yeah, watch this tri-motor Plaid rip 9 sec 1/4 miles runs with no transmission. Eventually you will see a drive unit on each wheel and then LSD/E-Diffs will be a thing of the past.

My guess is they will have a mode where you can simulated the swell of torque and the pause to simulated a gear shift but I am not sure how well this will go over. The benefit of an EV is its square wave torque curve so why do anything to introduce pauses and simulated shifts. If it is actually mechanical and more engaging then so be it but I think it will more of gimmick.
