Like maybe having a 2.8 turbo motor getting really good MPGs but making a host of aftermarket parts available thru the dealership exclusively just to meet MPG standards. Seems like the government is hell bent on making big horsepower cars go away and sooner or later the manufacturers will be held hostage by it.
Reportedly GM is planning its future product line based on $4.00 per gallon fuel prices, which is in line with what energy analysts project. I think fuel costs and consumer behavior will have more impact on products than big government. A 2.8L Turbo in a smaller/lighter coupe would provide a good balance of power and fuel economy. It will be key for GM to get the weight of the vehicles down.
