You should really look at infinity Q60 builds to get an idea of what the new Z can do. The Z shortblock is built for and can handle boost, but the entire remainder of the car (fuel system, tiny turbos, tiny intercooler, restrictive exhaust, weak clutch/transmission, etc) all need to be upgraded to reliably make more than 500 rwhp. The LT1 on the other hand will handle 650 rwhp with the factory hardware provided you supply the engine with enough fuel and octane. The thirst for fuel you claim affects both the LT1 and the Z. It will take much more money to get a new Z to 650 rwhp reliably than it will an LT1.
