I guess I grew up with a fanatic for a Dad, but they sure as heck were buying these cars because they handled relative to that day and age. "Road-hugging" was the catchphrase of the day. That meant they handled. Straight line only is one of those things we look at in retro-spect, not at the time.
Edit: and the 1st one is a classic. And 'optional rallye stripes (from the Camaro)- was basically saying "road racing stripes".
