Overall I agree they do not suite everyones needs and I am sure diesel/gas will be around longer than expected, Toyota is heavily lobbying against electric as they don't think it is as good for the environment as it is made out to be.
The whole electric grid/infrastructure thing is interesting and you are right we are not really there yet to support full demand but I doubt every person would need a full charge every day/night. Also I don't think electric cars will be a majority for many years, people live in multi unit dwellings without places to charge, people are buying ICE vehicles considerably more then electric right now so used/resale market will be around for a long time.
Personally I plan to keep ICE vehicles as I enjoy them and like to tinker but the innovation is welcomed and it will only get better. I can't wait to be driving a 1200-1500 whp, 2000 ft lb electric car that doesn't get heat soaked or need same level of maintenance an ICE needs at that level (maybe never but we will see).
Hopefully we will see even further innovation with alternative fuels, hydrogen and more in our lifetime, could be some crazy stuff.
