check out this chart:

google 2015-2020 sales and it's a similar story as the gen5 and now gen6 came out, mustang has continued to surpass in sales.

that said... went to barrett jackson back in 16 iirc. the "track" out back that they were doing hot laps in had a charger, mustang and camaro. I will say, and I am NOT a dodge fan at all, the line at the dodge booth was 4x longer than either ford or chevy. those guys were plain having fun. music was loud, car was loud, passengers screaming out the windows. ford and chevy booths were quiet and drivers felt like sticks in the mud. seeing all that, how many left that event and stopped at the local dodge dealer and took a hemi home. sema the last couple years here in vegas had ford-sponsored events in the parking lot. chevy?? sure they have done some things but 2 of the larger events in the US and crickets from what we observed as 2 people that at the time, didn't own and weren't planning on buying a sports car. we have a 2020 ss. guy at work just bought a new daytona hemi. idling his car is 2x as loud as ours. if you want v8 rumble, dodge has it.

just a couple observations from one who at the time, had no skin in any race.
bought an ss a month ago and LOVE IT. never thought I'd be a camaro owner but don't regret anything about it and I preach the 6.2/a10 combo as one of the best drivetrains I have ever driven and tell anyone that will listen

in the end not sure chevy is really doing the camaro justice in promoting it but I suspect some of that comes from having a bigger brother(vette) with a longer and arguably more noted past. mustang doesn't really have that(gt500 doesn't really count) and dodge keeps releasing faster versions but it's essentially the same car. chevy has a winner on their hands but doesn't seem to want to promote it. if they did sales might be different and lead to better or different reviews/articles/feedback.

again all my .02 as a professed car guy but first foray in the world of v8's.
The advertising/marketing angle is not taken well by ex-GM employees here, which is very interesting. Almost all (of us) "outsiders" think it's 1) not done right for the Camaro and 2) a change would bring or would've brought much better sales figures, while "insiders" vehemently deny that. Just watch.
