Not to threadjack at all, but I had some tranny trouble about two months ago in my 2 yr old MAZDA6. I heard a terrible whipping noise, but the car still drove and shifted fine. I took it to the dealership and they told me I put a clutch fork through the side of my transmission from "hot rodding". I laughed a bit... hot rodding in a 4-banger MAZDA6.
Anyhow, they shipped a new tranny from somewhere and gave me a brand new clutch as well. All under warranty. I was quite impressed by the service I got, as well as the rx8 I had as a loaner (which I indeed did "hot rod"
