I guess it depends on how old you are, me I doubt it. My kids, I could see it happening.

I mean let's look at it like this,

I will take Maryland for this case, if your car fails emissions you can be retested X amount of times and as long as you "tried to get it fixed with XX amount of dollars they will pass you". Why, because not everyone can afford to go out and get a new car. Lots of folks cannot afford to get the one they have fixed. We can argue the semantics of why, but that is a different topic.

SO to say the government is coming for your cars seems a bit far fetched for the foreseeable future. Unless they are handing out new cars.
