Was your torque converter ever replaced? If not and you drove the car too long with the shudder, the clutches may have sustained permanent damage and may not be able to reliably lock anymore, in which case you need a replacement converter.
Not sure where you are with your powertrain warranty, but it should cover this job. Make sure you find a helpful dealership.
If you're past the end point, the new revised torque converter itself
isn't very expensive, but replacement involves significant labor. You might as well get the transmission tuned, it will almost feel like getting a new car with a better trans.
