If you divide the deaths by cases it comes to around 2.7%. In the US.
What it means is that the virus has burned through the dry tinder, the easy pickings so-to-speak. Those of us who are left (statistically almost everybody) are harder for it to kill.

So whatever percentage a person chooses to go with, it is meaningless because going forward it is dropping. You cannot extrapolate the future based on the to-date death rate because that rate is skewed to the high side.

The other problem is twofold -
1.) We don't really know the number of cases. There are tons of false positives and there are also tons of undocumented cases... and

2.) The number of covid deaths is absolutely overstated, it's just a matter of by how much.

So to use a percentage based on two unknowns does not make much sense.

I like to look at like this - U.S. population is around 330,000,000. U.S. covid deaths are 224,000 (overstated, but we'll go with it). Death rate 224,000/330,000,000 = .07%

Not scary.
