Manual transmissions, maybe...but automatics, well, no automatic is as nice or as versatile as a GM automatic.
Have you ever driven a V8 powered car with a 700R4 or 4L60E in it? They hold at the MOST (in stock form) 350 Ft/Lbs before they start to self destruct.

The 4L65E was a little better and the 6L80E is MUCH better.

The 4L60E was rated at 600 Ft/Lbs in first gear (engine torque X 1st gear ratio) and the 4L65E was rated to 650 Ft/Lbs, while the 6L80E is good to 800 Ft/Lbs...

The ultimate GM transmission was the almighty Allison 1000, hooked up to the Duramax's!
