Interesting. I like the idea of shared transmissions better than shared engines though. Generally speaking, few care about the tranny in a car so long as it works. But engines are part of what defines a car. But for 'regular cars' where few can tell the difference when badges and names are removed, it might work.

On a bit of a side note, I think that the best partnership between domestic makers would be Ford and Dodge. Dodge has a styling department that creates cars which get a reaction from people (both good and bad) and can make decent performing cars, while Ford seems to be able to make vehicles that are fairly reliable (I would like to point out that I was raised on FORD = Found On Road Dead). Seems each can gain a lot from the other. And they overlap each other as much as GM overlaps itself.
