The 4.3 would have been great. That said, I'm assuming the 3.6 just barely beat it on economy numbers and thus is the reason they went with the 3.6. Also, I will say that the 3.6 works just fine in the Colorado. I'm happy enough with my 2015 Colorado with the 3.6. In the newer models with the 8 speed it feels even better with better low end response than the 15 and 16 models. The 8 speed I drove a few times as a loaner felt like the equivalent of what I would expect when adding an aftermarket tune and a cold air intake to my 2015.

I've also read cooling could be an issue.
