I will say that hitting the rev limiter in 1st gear doesn't sound like a good way to drive/shift, you need to shift earlier in 1st especially with this car and the TQ in 2nd. When I hit it on canyons it's always in 2nd. Or 3rd/4th on the track.

I am not waiting for the rev limiter to tell me to shift. My problem was waiting until it too close to redline to shift (yah, yah I've been called worse
). Now I am letting off of the gas as soon as the tach hits 6000. I guess the lag between my seeing it hit 6000 and the time I actually let of the gas allows me to hit 60 mph. I've seen it register 61 once.
