The thing is that the flu shot cannot provoke much of an immunological response in people with weakened immune systems, so it doesn’t do them all that much good. The flu shot has its best effect when healthy people get them and thus avoid spreading the flu to people who are especially vulnerable.
So if you live in a frat house go ahead and skip it. But you probably should get the vaccine if you think that sometime during flu season, you might visit a friend or relative with a compromised immune system. Or if you think you or someone you care about might get sick with something else that stresses their immune system and then catch a flu…
