That was a good big car. The 307 left it a bit underpowered but everything was slow from the factory in '83.

How about a 4.1L (252ci) V6? At least the car is a mere 3,439 pounds (and the Caddy weighed in at a svelte 3,370)...but that carburetor doesn't exactly feed the engine like modern fuel injection. It sure isn't making half of the power the DI 3.6 will (though both cars are 500 pounds less than the Camaro)!
For comparison sake, your '83 Olds weighed ~3,550, and the 307 made at least 15 more bhp (torque is not listed in my book). 116" wheelbase vs. 115.9 for my Buick or 110.8 for the Caddy.
Oh, and horsepower numbers for those cars: Buick-125, Caddy-130, Olds-140. Though they all made lots of torque for all their puny horsepower ratings.
