i think the only way your going to get the old shock top nut off is going to be to cut it.

Hows the lower mounting point look?

unfortunately, i think its only a matter of time before hes going to need to replace the truck. As im sure you know (and would agree) theres going to be a point where the cost and time to replace/fix, is going to be beyond the worth of the truck.
