Hey folks. Long time lurker, first time poster. Just was wanting to set some things straight(assuming they haven't, heh).
The live-action ads for both Halo 3 and ODST are done by Neill Blomkamp. His commercials for Halo 3 were so successful that Microsoft asked that he'd direct the movie, and he accepted. Peter Jackson was going to be the producer of the movie, not the director. After the script went to Fox and Universal, there were a number of arguments about how it was going to be done, especially with the rules Microsoft put in place. After a bit of arguing, the script was in limbo and the movie just kinda died. No filming was ever done. Don't think much pre-production was done.
Jackson was disappointed in the fact that Blomkamp didn't get to do the movie and wanted to give him a shot at making a silver screen movie(he has done movies, but none this big). Taking the chance, he went on to make District 9(a different take on Alive in Joburg, his first movie). The failed Halo movie upset a number of people, and last I heard Stuart Beattie was working on a script(without Master Chief, I think) and Spielberg is producing. I really wish it was still done with Blomkamp at least just b/c I think the live-action Halo ads will be hard to top. I won't say I'm following the movie like a hawk, but I'm a fan enough of Halo to have kept track of it every once in a while.
The clips of the "halo movie" in that youtube vid are all spliced together clips of the ODST ads, the live-action Halo 3 commercials, and Halo Wars(that wasn't even Bungie!).
Oh, and Doom was a terrible movie. It was a Resident Evil wannabe. How do you make a movie of Doom and leave out cyberdemons, imps(real ones, not "infected"), and Hell?
