The reason behind all the plant closings are GM is transforming just like Ford to reflect the consumer which is SUV, truck, and electric vehicles. Parts imported from Canada do not have additional tariffs with the new agreement and in fact are less. The only impact are with parts made overseas in China. The cost of purchasing US steel to use in production has minimal impact on the cost of a new car.
