FWIW, I am a driver for a Diesel repair and performance shop. I have heard the owner advise quite a few people that were looking for a used pickup as to what they should look for.
He tells them that with both Ford and Dodge (RAM), go with a 2015 or newer, and with a Duramax, look for a clean 2006 or newer.
His shop handles an average of 6 - 7 trucks a day, so they have seen it all. They also have an in-house tuner that is building a very good reputation... I drove a GMC a couple of months ago that was putting out 1500+ HP. Pretty insane!
Anyhow, that's what I've heard lately.
