Well, having an aluminum bed that you can't carry a heavy load in, negates a main reason for even having a pick-up truck. A heavy plastic insert bed-liner might be a good compromise for if and when you may damage the bed. Bed liners have been very common long before any beds had aluminum.

What's next....truck beds with plastic and cloth instead of aluminum? They still have to be a "truck" once in a while...lol
