I believe the so-called "Safety Petition" is what lets them and the government off the hook for any liability. They are so in love with this stuff that the rest of the motoring public is their guinea pigs if any deaths or injuries result. There is just no way to foresee any and all conditions that may occur resulting in deaths or accidents caused by these things, so they want a free pass as they go through a never-ending learning curve.
Look for an additional "driverless vehicle" charge to be added to your insurance policy.
