One should be allowed to fill a fuel tank to capacity without risk of part failure. This means there is a design flaw.

I round to nearest dollar or nearest .50 if there is a line behind me.

Yes you can. Hold down the traction button for 7-8 seconds. At first you will see one light come on under the tach. After holding for 7-8 seconds another light will come on and you'll be all set.

Or just get a transfer pump and one quart then reuse the transfer pump for other jobs like trans fluid, etc.
