C8s are heavy. The stingray weighs almost as much as an SS1LE. Not sure the C8Z can get much lighter than the stingray with that heavier DOHC engine and beefed up components. They're already using...

No doubt! I do like that they use "fast journalists" rather than pro drivers in the lightning lap though. Let's you know what's possible as an advanced HPDE driver driving any of the cars on the list...

Do it at 500 miles for peace of mind then is my advice. GM does call that out in the track day prep guide, so that would be the earliest "official" recommendation.

SS1LE until you can hit it's limits on the track. I learned to drive a C6Z (equal to an SS1LE) at it's limits before I moved to a ZLE. So glad I did.

Camaro 1LEs are the new performance bargains. Corvettes are moving upmarket. Hopefully not too far. Would hate to see them lose their identities completely.

C8 stingray weighs the same as an SS1LE. Corvettes are no longer light weight. I'm fine with it.
