I don't think the heat shields are necessary....
I don't think the heat shields are necessary. I've been running without them for 2000 miles with not even a hint of melt and in 105 degree heat. I've read of people with similar opinions here.

What I did to my 1LE
I got a 2013 1LE and did the following cosmetic mods to it:
- swapped out for heritage grill w/o bowtie
- removed vinyl hood wrap
- black satin vinyl over chrome rear tail light rims
- swapped...
