You may want to check out the "torque converter thread(s)" in the warranty forum. Sounds like this may be your issue. A number of owners have had the torque converter replaced with good results.

update: the dealership did diagnose the shuddering problem as the torque converter as well. I'm told the part is on order and should be in in 3-5 days. I hope this solves the problem.
