I ended up saying screw it, and took my old wheels/tires/sensors to an independent shop and had them switch everything over to the new...

Even if it didn't ruin the vinyl, I would think that it would change the sheen of the vinyl...if not worse.

Tirerack.com shows some options for going down to 18" in winter tire packages, so I'm thinking it would be fine.
Just don't want to buy them only to find out there are clearance issues.
