Launching A-10 w/1st gear delete

This build hits the strip on the 20th down in Nebraska, so we'll see how much the higher DA helps.

My question is, how best to burn out with the MT ET Street R 325/50R15.

My default would be to burn out in 2nd and roll out, but I'm wondering about shifting to 3rd just after the tires start spinning. It should get a lot more wheel in 3rd.

Yep... start in 2nd and shift to 3rd.

This is the way. :)

I drew the same conclusion because it doesn't have enough wheel speed in 2nd

Really? I was doing a burnout in 1st and shifting to second. Loading up 2nd from the hit and staying in 2nd has been fine for me. 3rd seems like a lot of wheel speed to suddenly stop when it bites as you roll out.

I know you've had traction issues in the past. Are you planning a 3rd gear leave option if it's a problem again?

You have an 8 speed correct? Big difference in 1st gear from that to the 10 speed. Pretty much impossible to launch a high HP car in first with a 10 speed!

Definitely not. My 9.28 was launching in 1st gear with a 10 spd. I’ve used 2nd and 3rd gear launches on no prep/back of the track. I’ve exhausted that and moving to 2nd gear launch on front side now.

I race in manual mode with a tune that deletes first gear. It's inconceivable to me that I could get this car to make a decent launch in first gear. On the other hand, I believe Brian at dinosaur juice told me he has a number of clients launching in first gear with an A10. This would indicate that you can reduce torque somehow to get the car to bite

Yea it’s shift scheduling in the tcm tune. My car currently has a 3rd gear launch tune in manual mode in it. I’ll have a 2nd gear launch in manual mode the next time I go to the track. I’m suggesting you get a 3rd gear launch tune ready on the side if you have problems hooking launching in 2nd. This way you may not waste a day at the track just spinning.

Better off pulling timing in the 2500-4500 RPM range to reduce the hit off the launch. Once you’re underway you’ll always be over 4500 RPM so the timing cut doesn’t cost you any power.

Thats impressive! Mine blows the tires off bigtime even with decent track prep! I put a 15 inch conversion on over the winter so I may try a 1st gear launch..

FWIW the midrange timing cut paid much bigger dividends than the 15” drag pack did…

Gotcha... Never played around with pulling timing on this thing. When this car ran a 9.37 the 60 foot was a lazy 1.49! Hoping to get that 60 ft down to low 1.40's high 1.30's. That should put it close to a 9.0X Gonna find out this Sunday @ Cecil :happy0180:

Yeah I struggled launching this thing for THREE years! I finally got serious about digging into the timing. My last run of the year, my current PB, was literally the first run in 3 years where I didn’t spin to some extent. My 60’ was still soft like yours (1.52) but I can now slowly introduce a bit of timing back in, launch a bit harder, etc to get that 60’ time down. But if you’re spinning it’s going to be a crappy run so I’d rather be conservative and work my way up.

Good luck at Cecil…it’s a fast track! :happy0180:
