A trip down memory lane:The 5th Gen nostalgia thread

Edit… let’s make this one all about the early 5th gen days.

Thought some of you might find these pictures cool. I sure did. I remember the explosion of anticipation and excitement these cars were at the very beginning. Even though I didn’t own one in the beginning I was in love with them at first sight. Here’s to the hay day of the best Gen Camaro ever built!

Please Feel free to post up any other pre production/assembly line pics or otherwise that bring out the emotion and overall excitement these cars garnered in the beginning, as these cars are quickly coming up on 15 years since the beginning of public production.

Dude that is so bad-ass! Great link. I have saved it. Can you imagine being one of those people who helped assemble these iconic cars?

While viewing the gallery, I was kind of sad in thinking that this will likely be the last era for true automobile excitement. What's to look forward to? A Camaro SUV? Yeesh.

I got mine in December of 09 and it was one of the only SSes in Brevard County. I would come out of Home Depot and find people taking pictures in front of my car. Thumbs up everywhere I went.

Danial, that would have been bad ass to see these bad boys on the line in March of 09 or even the pre production cars before that. I believe the 5th gen is the last true muscle car GM will ever build. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Cracka, I remember the first production 5th I ever saw up close in person. It was transformers SS and my mind was completely blown. I saw the concept car in person in 2006 or 2007, and the execution of production vs. concept was unreal to me. Normally concepts get toned down quite a bit. Obviously not the case here.

I’m gonna keep trying to find more production line pictures like this to add in as time goes on.

Here's a picture I took of the concept car at the Philly Auto Show back in January 2008. It really is amazing to see how close the production model came to the concept.

Aqua - I have close to 200 pictures I took of the assembly line at the 2011 Builders and Buyers of Oshawa Meet and Greet. Let me know if there are any parts of the line your looking for specifically.

There's another great photo, thanks for posting it. The one difference I seem to recall from seeing the proto in 2007 and then later, the production vehicle, was that the roof line of the proto seemed lower. I remember being mildly disappointed that the production vehicle had a higher roof line. Maybe it was my imagination, but at the time, it seemed like a thing for me.

Me with Ed Wellburn Jr. back in 2017 at the Buick Nationals here in Allentown, PA. He is considered the “father” of our beloved 5th gen.

Dude, what a great pic! I had to do a "google" of course, and just watched his 2022 acceptance speech at the Corvette Hall of Fame. The guy is a class act.

Here's the first batch of photos. In case anyone is wondering why they are all silver, this was before the cars were sent through the paint booth.

Those are referred to as BiW, or "Body in White". Working in an automotive assembly plant, this is all very familiar and very cool to see who other car companies do it!!
