Where to order stock performing brake pads from?
Thanks for all that gave input. I think my questions are answered. Especially after finding this thread.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173767 I've seen the threads about the ceramic brake pads and that some people feel you lose a little performance from them. I'm ok with the dust, I get on the ground and clean my wheels. It's cool. But I want to keep stock performance just in case of that one "Oh Sh!t" moment. So where do I find stock performing pads? Just the dealership? Service department just quoted me over the phone something like $389 front and $140 something on the rear(plus labor if they install). Seem high to anyone? Where else can you find stock performing pads? Weren't the Hawks cheaper than that? Maybe I will decide to keep the dust down. Thanks in advance for any help. |

We can get them, but for the price, I'd say go with the Hawk HPS. They will have a better bite than stock and still produce less dust. If you are really wanting a low dust pad, then the ceramics are a good way to go. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Tyler, yeah dust really doesn't bother me. I may be the only one. After making this post I stumbled onto the Hawk HPS. I'm getting tires this week or next. While there I'm going to inspect the brakes and see what I really need and figure it out from there.

Some Noise and performance pads normally go together depending on how aggressive they are,But if the directions are followed for break in then it helps,and they can be just as quiet as stock brakes..
Most people just slap pads on,and go then complain when they have issues or dont stop correctly.. I have always felt the breaks should be bleed even when just replacing pads,so you know you have the best peddle possible before you bed in the pads,and go through the heat cycle to break them in correctly and mate them to the rotors,its more important that most people realize... With today's newer pads the pad material is transferred to the rotor face in a thin layer when heated,so when you apply the brakes the pads rides on that thin layer of pad material instead of the rotor face its self...If you don't bed your pads correctly this action does not correctly happen..,the rotors and pads need a very good heat cycle,other wise your pads can also wear incorrectly ,or uneven,so the first time you heat them up later with hard braking,and the transfer happens the pads are not worn even and that thud thud starts to happen with can also led to warping of the rotors because only part of the pads is working and contacting the rotor face.. Anyway most of the time its the person doing the brake work that's to blame for poor brake performance not the pads.... |

I had much better braking with stock pads vs EBC yellow. I had previously used EBC yellow on my Mercedes S65 and they were great however they are much worse than stock on the ZL1.
