Here is one of my old school Newts on a Cave 2.5" shaft mount. Scope is a 10" F/8.

So i guess no one here has a scope?

I will be getting me one "soon" to do a little astrophotography. Nothing major but enough to have a little fun with. Also to share with my best friends 5 & 3 yr old, to show them 'stuff'.

I used one in college to search for moons and and other objects in the girls dorm 2 buildings away.

Just research first. Lots of junk out there. This is a 150mm ED. I have had around 270 scopes over the years.

I would like to get one this year. Thinking of either a 10" Dobsonian or a 10-16" Compound due to it being more compact and lighter.

Meade made a 16" SCT but the optics were never that great. Most SCT's are just not vary sharp, Had around 60 Meade and Celestron SCT's and only 5 were very good out of 60. They vary big time and finding a winner is like the lotto.

Not sure if a 16" is even being made today and if it was it would be big money.

Two of the things I have to consider are being able to move it myself and where to store it. Seems the articles I have looked at with pics some of the pics require software to get the images to look good in both color and clarity. I don't see myself spending more than $2500. Probably my 1st and last scope in the last 30 years.

you part of a local Astronomy club? I would like a scope that i can easily see Saturn with some definition in clarity. Obviously i want to see other stuff, but that is my standard i am using to determine what to get.

I was years ago like in 1982. Just try to find a starparty near you and take a look at many kinds of scopes.

A good used 5" ED would be a good choice. The one on the far left was a 130mm triplet. Size wise is not too big.
