Pg. 17 'Trend'...Camaro Update

I'm just picking out the interesting points; ;)

"The front-axle centerline on the Camaro has been moved about 50mm further forward than it is on the Holden Commodore....allows the Camaro to run 20" wheels without compromising steering lock."

That being said, I don't see 20" wheels being offered from the factory. From what I've heard, look for 17" and/or 18" wheels, with 19" being optional. As further proof 20's won't be offered from the factory, the G8 showcar has 20" wheels, but it's stated that 19" wheels will be the largest.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the BIG RIM RUBBERBAND TIRE look. :thumbdown: I think anything bigger than 20" on the Camaro would look.......:iono:

"The Camaro coupe and convertible are close to production versions, say GM insiders. The roof on the coupe will be raised about 15mm for production, and the body sides will be pulled in 5-10mm."

"GM sources say entry-level versions will retail from about $21,000. Thats because they'll use the cheaper to build pushrod 3.9-liter V-6 as the entry level engine. .....mated with the 6-speed manual or auto."

As I always take what I read in the "car rags" with a "grain of salt", this info. seems somewhat legit.

While I have similar tastes and do not prefer the "big rim rubberband look" :bellyroll: (I like that phrase, I may have to borrow it!), I wouldn't be suprised if 20's ARE offered. They are not being offered on the G8 becasue it is simply a rebadge of the Commodore, correct? But if they are making concessions to allow for 20's on the Camaro by moving the front wheels forward, then why would they not offer them?

It just doesn't seem to make sense why GM would go out of their way and incur further engineering expenses for something like that, and then turn around and not offer them.


Either way, it will be 18's MAYBE 19's for me..... As often as I will go through a set of tires, I don't want to pay the extra money for tires to fit those 20's! :burnrubber: :smoking:

I just don't like big rims because of the additional unsprung weight, I don't like to compromise speed for looks.

Both of those comments have been published before - I believe them to be the real deal :D

What happened to havin 20s up front and 21s on the back? Wasnt that the rumor? Also, I know it doesnt count for much but the concept has 20s up front and 21s in back.

I wouldn't doubt the production model will have 18's w/ 19's or 20's as an upgrade. Why lengthen the front end for larger wheels if they won't be offered??? It doesn't make sense. I'd look for the big wheels.

im really looking in leaving the nicest wheels gm has to offer on the camro for a while. then after that i'll start to move things around.

The last few years, GM has finally realized what nice wheels really look like. Hopefully that will carry over to the Camaro.

I'll be surprised if 20's are offered. The C6 doesn't even offer them. :iono:

I asked a "certain someone" about the wheels, and there was a mention of 17 front/ 18 rear....;) ....but who knows, 20's may be an option? :iono: :iono:

Did they purposely design the Corvette to allow for 20's? I don't know much about the engineering that went into the C6.

I just can not imagine that they would take the extra time, effort, and money to ensure the Camaro can accommodate 20 inch wheels and then not offer them. Plus, wouldn't they be able to sell 20" wheels with a nice profit margin?

Also, if their goal is to keep the Camaro "as close to the concept as possible" then offering a 20" wheelpackage would fit into that strategy as well... Going from 21/22's to 18/19's would be a much more noticable difference than going to 20's.... I dunno, I guess we will just have to wait and se.. :cool:

idk but I like the big rim look all of the chrome a shining and the low pros. Damn I'd think that would be sweet. Because you know girls these days they like things that they can see their reflection in. Damn I can not wait, but I'll take the biggest rims they offer as long as they shine.

My problem would be constantly replacing the tires on those things! I mean I will admit, I have no intentions of keeping my foot off the pedal when i finally get this car :burnrubber: and the tires on those 20's will not be cheap to replace and those low profile tires will wear down a lot more quickly.... I'd be buying new tires every month :eyebulge:

Completely agree. First off, the tires will most likely be directionals. On top of that, if they are 18's on the front and 19's out back, now you can't rotate the tires. You'd have to pop them off the rim to "rotate" them. These things will be expensive to replace and will wear down quickly if we can't rotate them. :thumbdown:

I can see 18's or 19's offered as base, with a "Concept" package or something like that offering the 20's and 21's...just my 2 cents
