will GM tune a car with GM performance parts??

If we bought an LSA supercharger from the parts department and had it installed at the Chevy dealer would they do the tune also? would we have to buy an ECM for the ZL1?

The question becomes, Do they install the parts and then you would have to tow the car to a tuner just to void the warranty?

To put this a different way, I go to company A and have them install a supercharger and they give me a warranty but they tell me, we can not start the car because company B has to tune it and once company B tunes it the warranty is voided.

Has anyone tried this? I am using mine as a daily driver and probably will not add a cam or SC but there are a lot of people here that have and will in the future.

In short the answer is no, GM does not tune for performance parts. The warranty you are seeing is for parts and is not to be confused with factory warranty. For example, you buy a supercharger from the dealer and have it installed. The new supercharger will carry the new parts warranty, but the rest of the engine is not covered.

There are a few items that you can get that won't effect your factory warranty if installed at the dealer, such as 3:91 gear, ZL1 brakes and a couple others.

GM has only offered a tune once that I can recall, and it was for the 2.0 LNF engine that maintained the factory warranty.

When I had my 13 Sierra Denali I was going to put a factory supercharger on it. I talked with the service manager. He said GM doesn't sell or have factory tuners. Even if I put a factory supercharger I would have to get a tuner from somewhere else. He also said the factory warranty would be gone.

I just got off the phone with a long time friend who builds 1/4 mile race cars... he has an 2014 SS and wanted a Supercharger for it.. He just said the same exact thing, they will install and will not do the tune and also you lose the warranty on the engine but have the warranty on the SC..

Crazzy when you think about it but smart business model I guess...

That's why Ford kicks GM's ass royally. Companies like Roush and Saleen can do this and you still get the factory warranty. Why the hell doesn't GM do the same? Even the Super Snake had a warranty up to a certain power level.

Not true, Roush and Saleen have their own warranty that is not part of Ford's factory warranty. It's the same type of thing you can get from Hennessey and Lingenfelter.

GM also offers a tune adjustment, not necessarily a performance tune, when you buy the 3.91 gear set. They basically do a speedo re-calibration. It's included in the price of the kit.

This is posted at the bottom of the website link to the LSA Supercharger. I too thought it was a good question, then I saw this, and realized what it was, an independent parts vendor.

I am yet to see a dealership with a dyno, so I'm thinking no on them tuning the car. If you look closely at a great many of the GMPP parts, especially the ones that are internal, you will see them labeled as 'off road use only'. This little statement gets them off the hook for the factory warranty, if I'm not mistaken.

Now, if buy it from the dealer parts dept, and they install it, which they may or may not, understand that it is looked upon as a change that you voluntarily made to the car. So, at that point, the powertrain warranty would most likely be gone. However, any existing warranties for non effected parts and systems still remain in tact. Again, as I understand it.

The only car company that I know that you can keep your warranty is, Toyota. I know you can get a tundra or Tacoma with a FACTORY supercharger put in by Toyota and keep your factory warranty. When I bought my 99 Tacoma new they asked me if I wanted one. It was a 3500 dollar option. I declined. The service manager was my next door neighbor. He said that I was told right.

VW, Audi and Porche (all the same company) Have no issues doing this, they will do the tune (from another company) and charge you for it :) They will also do all the work installing any new aftermarket equipment...

At the VW dealer in OKC you can buy a brand new GTI, take it to stage 3 at 450 WHP and finance it and drive it off the lot..

Like I said before, its just not the same "feel" HP and nothing beats an 8 banger :)

I don't think I would trust a tune a VW dealer did, probably programmed to have good power on only Thursdays or something like that.

It would probably be a great tune as long as you aren't concerned about passing an emissions test. VW doesn't let little things like laws get in the way of performance!

If a manufacture warranty "void" is a concern for you, then do not modify it. GM does not do tunes, but what you are asking is (and I cannot stress this strongly enough) a discussion you need to be having with your service adviser. This is a simple relationship building scenario.
